In the past, billing for a CT of the abdomen and a CT of the pelvis required two separate codes. Now, they are permanently bundled into combination codes. CPT 74177 represents a CT of the Abdomen and Pelvis with contrast.

The Combination Codes

If you scan both the abdomen and pelvis during the same session, you must use the combo codes:

  • 74176: Without contrast.
  • 74177: With contrast.
  • 74178: Without contrast, followed by with contrast.

Billing a standalone abdomen CT (74160) and a standalone pelvis CT (72193) on the same day will trigger an NCCI unbundling denial.
